When i came upon UnplugYourKid.com i thought what they do is fantastic. Here is the basic idea: Every week a theme is selected and you have full freedom to explore that idea creatively with your child. You take pictures of the process, progress, results, etc. and post them then link to the main website so others can see and enjoy. Here are some more details...
This week's theme is Dark. We are going to have a go next week with Petal.
There has been much jubilation since the iris and peonies started blooming so it should make for some really fun petal-ly projects.
May 27, 2009 at 10:24 PM That's such a cool site. I definitely know that when I have kids, I want to keep them as unplugged as possible, too. A huge pet peeve for me are toys that make sounds and have lights. Kids have the ability to create that in their imaginations. Why stunt it?

May 28, 2009 at 9:38 AM I couldn't agree with you more, Eloise! We need to give kids some more credit for what they can create and imagine. A lot of the time the box of those toys with all the bells and whistles provides more real fun and enjoyment for little ones! Glad you dig the unplugged site. I will let you know how the petal project goes!
